What is the ACFT?

The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) was the Army’s test of record from 2022 until the Army Fitness Test (AFT) replaced it on June 1, 2025. The ACFT scored six events at up to 100 points each for a maximum total of 600, with a 60-point floor on every event and a 360-point minimum to pass. If you’re preparing for a current, active-duty test, use the AFT calculator on AFTScore instead — the ACFT is kept here for reference, training-log comparisons, and units still transitioning.

The six ACFT events

EventWhat it measuresHow it’s scored
3-Rep Max Deadlift (MDL)Lower-body and posterior-chain strengthHeaviest 3-rep hex-bar lift, in pounds
Standing Power Throw (SPT)Explosive full-body powerBackward overhead throw distance, in meters
Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP)Upper-body muscular enduranceMax reps in 2 minutes
Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC)Anaerobic power, speed, agilityElapsed time, lower is better
Plank (PLK) or Leg Tuck (LTK)Core and trunk stabilityTime held, or reps for leg tuck
Two-Mile Run (2MR)Aerobic enduranceElapsed time, lower is better

Most Soldiers were graded on the plank rather than the leg tuck, since it’s more accessible across body types and easier to standardize. This calculator scores the plank version — see the full AFT standards page for the leg tuck alternative and how it compares.

ACFT vs. the current AFT

The AFT replaced the ACFT on June 1, 2025. The Standing Power Throw was dropped after research linked it to a disproportionate share of training injuries, taking the test from six events to five and the maximum score from 600 to 500. The other four events — deadlift, push-up, sprint-drag-carry, and the two-mile run — carried over, and the plank became the standard core event. If you’re testing today, your recorded score comes from the AFT, not the ACFT; run your numbers through the AFT calculator for the standard that actually applies to you.

Any ACFT score recorded before May 31, 2025 remained valid for promotion-point consideration only through September 30, 2025 — after that, only AFT scores count.

Training priorities by event

  • Train the deadlift on an actual hex bar — grip and bar path differ enough from a straight bar to change your working max.
  • Practice the standing power throw for technique, not just strength — hip drive and release angle matter more than raw power.
  • Run the full SDC course, not substitute conditioning — the transitions between sprint, drag, shuffle, and carry are where most time gets lost.
  • Add plank time weekly in small increments; most Soldiers move from a bare pass into the 80-point range within six to eight weeks.
  • Mix interval and tempo runs for the 2MR — steady-state mileage alone rarely moves a sub-16-minute goal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the ACFT still the Army’s test of record?

No. The Army Fitness Test (AFT) replaced the ACFT on June 1, 2025. This calculator is kept for reference and for comparing legacy scores — use the AFT calculator for a current, gradeable estimate.

What’s the minimum score to pass the ACFT?

60 points on every one of the six events, plus a 360-point total. Falling below 60 on any single event fails the entire test even if the total clears 360.

Can I use the leg tuck instead of the plank?

Units that still authorize the leg tuck can score it as an alternate to the plank for the core event. Most Soldiers were tested on the plank.

Why was the Standing Power Throw removed in the AFT?

Army research found it produced a disproportionate share of training injuries relative to how well it predicted combat-task readiness, so it was dropped when the ACFT became the AFT.

This calculator gives an unofficial estimate built from the published ACFT scoring anchors by age group and sex. It is a planning and training-log tool, not a system of record — the ACFT itself is a legacy test, replaced by the AFT.
